Namibia: Etosha

The word 'etosha' means "Great White Place" and as you can see from the photos below it really is a great white place!

The Etosha Pan covers some 4700 square kilometres. At its widest point it is about 110 km by 60 km. The pan is mostly dry except after heavy rains when it floods via rivers in the north. It was dry, dry, dry when we were there!

Look closely ... no, it's not what you think ... Don was emptying water from the cooler box.

White Elephants ...

Herds of thousands of Springbok....

A herd of at least 500 Zebras ...

Gemsbok are now my favourite antelope species - sooo beautiful!

A solitary Wildebeest ...

  1. I've never been to Etosha but it's on my list now! It would be amazing to go there in the same trip as the Okavango -- the contrast between the aridity and the swamp would be amazing.
