Namibia: Windhoek

After many years of planning a trip to Namibia, here we are on our way to what used to be called South West Africa, and was previously a South African protectorate. Our travelling companions are Gavin and Antoinette Robertson and Lionel and Joan Marran, old friends of Gavin and Ant.

What is a road trip without a roadside picnic? Note the bottle of wine on the bottom right of the above photo!?

This is the border between South Africa and Botswana.

Joe's Beerhouse in Windhoek is world renowned and not to be missed, serving German specialities in a uniquely decorated environment

Yes, Lionel is sitting on a toilet  .. !! Non operational of course.

  1. Trying again....are you perchance a descendant of Roisen John Sater, the son of Sevrin Sater and Charlotte McKenzie of Durness, Sutherland? If so, we are distantly related..

  2. Hi Douglas. Yes, Roisen was our maternal grandfather. If you provide your email address, we can share what information we have.

  3. Heids -- I love the photo of the border crossing. So informal! Joe's looks wonderful; hope the beer was wonderful too. Looking forward to the next stage of your travels.

  4. Thank you. You can contact me on either dtssc@btinternet.com, or ezra.poundland@gmail.com.

I found your grandfather as a very small boy visiting Transvaal House in Durness with his mother in April 1901, and knew that Charlotte and Sevrin had gone to live in SA. If my detective work is up to scratch, your grandfather passed away around 1973. Did he by any chance have a brother caled Hugh?

    Regards

    Douglas
